Boyz-N-Girlz United confuses the boy band and girl band ideology, combining the two into a mix of super sassy, sexy syrup. You won’t be surprised that they are from Orlando, Florida and managed by the same camp that originally brought us ‘NSYNC and Britney Spears. I guess the cookie cutter is back out and assembling the next round of stars.
The album’s first single, “Messed Around”, was written and produced by ‘NSYNC member JC Chasez. The next few tracks are the typical dance beats surrounded by a verse and chorus that works its way into your subconscious. However, you will note that the songs aren’t up there with the huge stars of today. There is no monster single to be heard, and that could really hurt the group. “Don’t Get What You See” is an attempt to play down the group’s looks and what’s on the outside. Though it doesn’t sound so bad, the message just isn’t interesting. And of even less interest is the cover version of Atlantic Starr’s “Always”.
Boyz-N-Girlz United’s sound is simply too typical. It’s obvious and throws no curves, nothing but the same old songs with the same old beats. Ingenuity is a good thing. Boyz-N-Girlz United is as boring as their name.
