Rating: 7.5/10

CORPORATE LINE: Plug in the power drill and break out the socket wrenches! Tim Allen hammers home the laughs as Tim “The Toolman” Taylor in HOME IMPROVEMENT’S hilarious second season. Tim and his level-headed wife, Jill, undertake the challenge of raising three young, mischievous boys. It’s a tough project, but with insightful advice from his wise (and only partially seen) next door neighbor, Wilson, they’re able to get the job done. Now you can own all 25 episodes of the show’s second season in this comprehensive 3-Disc DVD set. And with exclusive bonus features, it’s a must-have for any HOME IMPROVEMENT collection.

THE SHOW: Tim Allen isn’t the only guy on this show who can crack you up time and again. Patricia Richardson, even as the straight-man, can deliver some great lines.

This isn’t the best season—but it is quite a good one. As any fan knows it’s up to Tim and Jill to resolve some sort of problem in about twenty-four minutes. Certainly there are problems Tim wants to resolve to help his sons—like when Mark is being bullied and when Brand and Randy steal money they’ve collected for charity. And then there are the problems that involve Jill and Tim—like Tim wondering if he is compatible with Jill.

And of course there is Tim being Tim. He pulls a groin trying to impress Jill. Makes a mess of things like getting lost in a snow storm but won’t ask for directions. Tim really goes crazy when trying to catch a woodpecker that is tormenting him. And then there is Tim taking on Bob Vila in a lawnmower race.

DVD FEATURES: There is a very short gag reel.

FRANKLY: The extras are slim, but what are you buying the box set for anyway? The episodes. If you only care about watching the episodes from the Second Season you are going to be extremely happy.
