Intolerable Cruelty

Intolerable Cruelty
Cast: George Clooney, Catherine Zeta-Jones
Studio: Universal
Rating: 8/10

Corporate Line: A slick Beverly Hills divorce lawyer (Clooney) frames the wife (Zeta-Jones) of a client to get him released from the marriage without a settlement. She vows to get revenge by marrying the attorney, aiming to take him to the cleaners in their own savage divorce, but what she doesn’t expect is that she falls in love with him in the process.

The Good: From the opening cupid sequence right until the end you will be caught in the net of the heartless. Clooney teams with the Coen brothers who put him on screen in O’Brother, Where Art Thou? Then he had a hair fetish this time around it’s his teeth. The Coen’s have a way of bringing out the darkest parts of human nature all for a good laugh.

Catherine Zeta-Jones does a fantastic job as the money hungry man-eater who will do anything to nail herself a rich husband. Clooney is marvelous as the bored, but amazing divorce lawyer. When Clooney meets Jones the magic begins.

There aren’t many movies with this type of wit. Most of the ingredients are there that were in place for O Brother. A great cast, great laughs, and most of all it picks up steam and never slows down.

The Bad: Not enough Cedric the Entertainer.

Frankly: A great date movie, especially if you are married. Intolerable Cruelty is a must see movie.
