Four Brothers

Four Brothers
Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, Andre Benjamin
Studio: Paramount
Rating: 7/10

CORPORATE LINE: Avenging the death of their mother, who was accidentally murdered in a robbery at her local grocery store, four adopted brothers (Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, Andre Benjamin, and Garrett Hedlund) grow closer through their mission, realizing the family ties they share.

THE FILM: An interesting premise that has been done before; “The Sons of Katie Elder” starring John Wayne and Dean Martin. This version has been updated with a blaxploitation flip. Most of Four Brothers is over-the-top, especially the shoot outs.

What hurts Four Brothers is the usual mix of stereotypes. There is nothing more annoying that seeing the same old stereotypes played out. Where are the fresh ideas? Should we already know what is going to happen simply because every stereotype plays right down the line?

Thankfully the cast is fantastic. There is a feeling that these guys spent time together and weren’t just thrown together for a movie.

FRANKLY: Four Brothers isn’t a great film—more of a fun way to waste an afternoon.
