CORPORATE LINE: The hilarity continues with Season Nine of the smash-hit comedy series as Phoebe is confronted with some tough romantic choices, Rachel takes on motherhood and Monica and Chandler become inspired to start their own family. Guest appearances include Hank Azaria, Freddie Prinze Jr., Christina Applegate, Selma Blair, Jon Lovitz, Jeff Goldblum, John Stamos, Elliot Gould and Dermot Mulroney.
THE SHOW: Certainly the ninth season was far from Friends in its prime however there are moments of brilliance.
The show truly got bogged down in relationship chaos and for many episodes in a row there seemed to be moments where nothing moved forward. There are some absolutely hilarious moments such as Chandler falling asleep and taking a job in Tulsa. Then there is Phoebe and Mike parenting a box full of rats. Ross and Rachel singing to there baby should have been a tear-jerker except for the fact that they were singing “Baby Got Back.” Oops.
The biggest problem with the ninth season is that there aren’t many episodes that stand alone. During seasons past viewers could tune in after missing an episode and still get worked up to hysterics. Not so with the ninth season. And the whole Phoebe and David and Mike love triangle and Rachel and everyone else grew exceedingly tedious. Each of these relationships was drawn out more and more for the sake of trying to prepare for a tenth season that wasn’t originally going to happen.

FRANKLY: Sadly the show doesn’t have the same depth and sharp wit that made Friends the television hit show that it once was. Another major issue was the need to bring in guest star after guest star to try and make a stale show funny again. It didn’t work and actually showed how desperate the writers were to make up for a lack of good material. Friends: The Complete Ninth Season is great for fans who want to complete their collection.
