Bottlefly gets their kicks from the happy pop tracks of the ’60’s, steering clear of the anti-pop sound of the early ’90’s.
“Long Time Coming” artfully plays like the Turtles at a lollipop pace. “Sunshine” comes to life with a Johnny Cash bass line, but it’s not half as dark. “Michael Caine” has a taste of the Blues Traveler while “Bottlefly” takes a path all its own and gives the group its own formidable sound.
While they’re spreading their sound far and wide, “So Electric” fixes cheer from ear to ear. “Closer” ends the album on a high with a sweeping ballad. It’s not impossible to see that Bottlefly can write joyous melodies to keep the clouds away. Though they have a tendency to borrow from others, Bottlefly still has a solid sound all their own.
