Derailed

Derailed
Cast: Jennifer Aniston, Clive Owen, Vincent Cassel
Studio: Weinstein Company
Rating: 5/10

CORPORATE LINE: DERAILED is a suspense thriller about a successful ad exec and loyal family man Charles, (Clive Owen) meets an alluring and sexy woman (Jennifer Aniston) on his morning commute. Flirtation quickly escalates into passion. But this casual fling quickly turns dangerous when a violent criminal confronts and pulls them into a dangerous plot. Now with their entire lives thrown terrifyingly off-course, Charles must figure out how to turn the tables and somehow save their families.

THE MOVIE: Derailed has some top notch actors—that should be a plus. And Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen do the best they can with the material they are given. Derailed should have been an exciting film the problem isn’t the cast or even the premise. It’s the execution and the miscasting. Both Owen and Aniston play against type. Certainly that is what intrigued both actors to the movie however it doesn’t work.

THE EXTRAS:
“The Making of Derailed” – A very short featurette with interviews with cast and crew. Also included are deleted scenes and five minutes of additional footage not seen in theaters.

FRANKLY: Derailed bumbles throughout and hopes of surprising us at the end. Hope isn’t enough. The surprise twist isn’t worth dragging yourself out of the house let alone paying $10 for a ticket.
