Ben Stiller has his moments. It seems for every Meet The Parents there is Keeping The Faith and Black And White. Going into Zoolander, I wasn’t sure whether it would be more of the former or a lot more of the latter.
First, I want to say the trailers don’t do this film justice. I expected Zoolander to be as painful as a root canal. I mean, Ben Stiller as an international model? If he can pass as a model then I need to get together a photo shoot and call some agents.
Derek Zoolander is it, until Owen Wilson takes that title away only to quit altogether. Confused? That’s how Zoolander feels when he is brainwashed to be an assassin. Silly.
All this asinine plotting ends up being really funny. The movie isn’t supposed to be realistic, you’re just supposed to laugh so hard you expel your gallon of cola all over yourself.
Ben Stiller turns in a monstrously funny performance. But he is almost one-upped by Will Ferrell who plays a fashion designer. Owen Wilson is over the top and funny. There are plenty of surprise cameos to keep the film moving along. It’s truly a laugh fest.
The brainwashing scene gets this film going and from there it never ends. Zoolander is completely ridiculous from top to bottom. It’s a good comedy. The beauty of Zoolander is that it really seems dumb, but it’s not dumbed down either. It’s almost hard to explain. I guess you just have to go out and see it for yourself.
