CORPORATE LINE: Directed by Academy Award®-winner Anthony Minghella (“The English Patient”, “The Talented Mr. Ripley”) and based on Charles Frazier’s best-selling Civil War novel of the same name, COLD MOUNTAIN tells the story of Inman (Jude Law), a wounded confederate soldier who is on a perilous journey home to his mountain community, hoping to reunite with his pre-war sweetheart, Ada (Nicole Kidman). In his absence, Ada struggles to survive, and revive her father’s farm with the help of intrepid young drifter Ruby (Renee Zellweger).
THE GOOD: The beautiful scenery; I wanted to finish watching the movie just to see more of the landscaping of Cold Mountain. In fact, I think Anthony Minghella was not focused on the characters either. With all the characters in Cold Mountain the one that outshines everyone is Ruby Thewes (Zellweger). This is Renee’s best performance to date and she worked hard for her Oscar.
THE BAD: The scenes were too long. At times it seemed the film would never end. And then there is Jude Law who bored me to tears with his lackadaisical character.

FRANKLY: If you want to see beautiful landscaping then watch, just have your remote in had so you can fast forward through the film–that is until Zellweger appears.
