Do I seriously need to tell you who David Bowie is?
Bowie:
“Slow Burn” – Pete Townshend comes by for a hand on the axe of the one good track.
“Everyone Says ‘Hi’” – Finally we get a break from overproduction and underproduction to get a simple song that sounds good. The reason: it sounds like it actually has a soul.
“A Better Future” – Here is a track where the bizarre actually sounds right.
Boring:
“Sunday” – Where the song is going is beyond me.
“Cactus” – Good until the chorus came along.
“Afraid” – the production sounds much too much like a demo.
“Heathen” – Too much.
Bad:
“I Took A Trip On A Gemini Spaceship” – Cool beats, but the lyrics are terrible.
Bowie doesn’t sound like he had a plan with Heathen. The album is completely disjointed, dark and dank. As a Bowie fan of old there doesn’t seem to be much here to connect him with what he has done great other than his voice. It might be blasphemy but this is Bowie at his most average.
