Corporate Line: “Judas!” cried the immortal heckler. The booing crowds, the stomping feet, “Play F***ing Loud!” – all of this marked the legendary Bob Dylan 1966 World Tour. The bootlegged “Royal Albert Hall” concert was finally released as Live 1966, yet the tour film “Eat The Document” has never been released, and the tour itself is not well understood. Drummer Mickey Jones brought along his 8 mm color “home movie” camera, and now chronicles the epic Bob Dylan 1966 World Tour that changed Rock and Roll forever!

The Film: The home footage of the Beatles is fantastic – but you wonder from the start is this about Bob Dylan or Mickey Jones? The best aspects clearly are the home footage of Mickey’s days with Trini Lopez, Johnny Rivers and Bob Dylan. I don’t think anyone would disagree that this hardly compares to the Bob Dylan documentary Don’t Look Back.

The commentary is often interesting and insightful – I just wish it would have been called the “Mickey Jones Story: My days with the Beatles, Johnny Rivers, and Bob Dylan” because honestly that’s what it is.

Many keep waiting to get their hands on the Dylan film Eat The Document and are hungry for Dylan footage still won’t be satisfied. There is footage but there isn’t a lot of Bob Dylan in this film. Most is Jones goofing around in the trees trying to be artistic. What does that have do with Dylan? After all it is his face and name on the box. It’s because Dylan’s name has salability, not Mickey Jones’ name.

Frankly: Much of the footage is grand rock and roll historical artifacts. It would have been great if the DVD with commentary and without. The biggest problem is there’s no sound on these home videos. Wouldn’t that have been great? We might be talking about some seriously amazing footage similar to Dylan’s Eat the Document. It’s sad because either Mickey Jones didn’t shoot anymore footage than what we saw or they decided to show more Jones than Dylan. Either way it’s slim picking.
