CORPORATE LINE: Declared one of the ten best shows on television by Time, USA Today and Entertainment Weekly and named #3 of the top 25 cult shows ever by TV Guide, Fox Home Entertainment’s breakout DVD series returns for a final season of slaying when the “BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER” SEASON SEVEN DVD COLLECTION. This final season returns to original mission statement of the show, the joy of female power: having it; using it; sharing it. After the re-opening of Sunnydale High School, Buffy and the gang prepare for the final showdown with a host of vampires and demons in which some will make the ultimate sacrifice to save the world—again. The “BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER” SEASON SEVEN DVD COLLECTION features all 22 episodes from the final season along with loads of bonus features including audio commentary by creator Joss Whedon and others, a DVD-ROM demon guide, an outtake reel, multiple featurettes including an overview of the season and a behind-the-scenes look at wrapping the series, and an Easter Egg.

THE SHOW: Unfortunately a great show like Buffy the Vampire Slayer had to end with its worst season ever. That doesn’t mean it was bad—just not up to par with the greatness and benchmark it set for itself. One of the biggest problems was trying to introduce a bunch of new characters which took too much time away from the characters we all love the most. Giles for one was almost lost in the shuffle and Willow was reduced to a punchline.

Even Buffy seemed to have lost her spark during the final year. So much happened to her that you expected to feel some growth. There are always expectations and the seventh season didn’t move them along. Instead we were given the “Potentials” who were could be slayers and you know what? Who cares? Seriously, it never mattered. It would have been more interesting to see more Willow, Xander, Buffy, and Giles fighting bad guys then some dismissible hopefuls.

What hurt the seventh season most was the lack of originality. They stumbled throughout trying to live off the past and not make something new. There was no growth. Nothing truly enduring. Honestly it almost didn’t matter if you missed an episode because they never had the wonderful cohesion of the past. Why? Because the big bad guy was a big dud.

FRANKLY: Joss Whedon all but abandoned the show to work on two other shows until the finale—which he wrote himself. The finale was the best episode which makes us wonder what the final season would have been like if he had wrote every episode.
