Adam-12

Adam-12
Cast: Martin Milner, Kent McCord
Studio: Universal
Rating: 6.5/10

CORPORATE LINE: Race through the streets of Los Angeles with Adam-12, the series that defined the police drama genre. Still mourning the death of his former partner, Officer Pete Malloy (Martin Milner) is teamed with rookie Officer Jim Reed (Kent McCord) and together they serve and protect the City of Angels as Adam-12, their unit’s radio call number. Watch as these brothers in blue struggle to manage the job’s demands and frustrations, as they battle drug dealers, intervene in domestic disputes and pursue suspects in high-speed chases. Boasting high-caliber guest stars such as Karen Black, Barry Williams and Harry Dean Stanton, and containing all 26 episodes of the complete first season, Adam-12 is now available on DVD for the first time ever. You have the right to remain silent, sit back and ride along with the officers of Adam-12!

THE SHOW: Adam-12 took the cop to the street in L.A. The show took a more dramatic approach to a police show—for its time. But watching it today it’s hard to imagine anytime when life was like this in L.A. Everything is too sanitized. There are none of the issues that exist between the cops and the community. The cops are always right—but its television and it was the seventies.

The notable episodes: Rookie Reed kills a sniper, the duo stop a teenager from committing suicide, and solve an issue between neighbors about a boat. For the older viewers there are some great guest stars like Barry Williams, Karen Black, and Cloris Leachman.

DVD FEATURES: No features.

FRANKLY: Anyone who is searching for a gritty police drama will be hugely disappointed. Adam-12 is however quite enjoyable. The biggest issue with this boxset is the lack of special features. In the end Adam-12 is an acquired taste. I had to sit through it for the sake of the review—but in the end the show grew on me.
