American Pie: Boot Camp

American Pie: Boot Camp
Cast: Eugene Levy
Studio: Universal
Rating: 4/10

CORPORATE LINE: A spin-off from the successful AMERICAN PIE film trilogy (AMERICAN PIE, AMERICAN PIE II, AMERICAN WEDDING), AMERICAN PIE PRESENTS: BAND CAMP meets up with Matt, the younger brother of Steve Stiffler (Seann William Scott), the stand-out jerk from the first three films. In this installment, Matt receives the punishment of being sent to the notorious band camp, made famous by Alyson Hannigan’s character in the first AMERICAN PIE. Mischief and bad manners seem to run in the family, as Matt plays every practical joke in the book on his innocent campmates. It’s all raunchy fun and games until a serious crush threatens to change Matt’s fun-loving demeanor. Don’t miss a guest appearance by Eugene Levy reappearing in his role as Jim’s dad.

THE REVIEW: Band Camp is little more than a movie with a franchise name that has soured. When all else fails how doe they resurrect the cash cow? Boobs.

I remember when Porky’s and Meatballs movies were out on VHS. As a teen those were the movies you dreamed of watching. Its obvious Band Camp is made for teenage boys. Even the menu has breasts. I can’t recall any movie with breasts in the menu outside of a porn flick.

Tad Hilgenbrinck as Matt Stiffler does look like Seann William Scott. The problem is that Tad has no charisma. He is so annoying that even if you wanted to see the entire film he makes it very difficult. Even worse are the many shots of Tad’s butt or masturbating.

The rest of the movie is full of nerdy ‘bandies’ and the very pretty bandleader Elyse played by Arielle Kebbel. The way the story unfolds can be seen a mile away. It’s apparent the filmmakers didn’t care if we knew what was going to happen in the end as long as they got enough naked women in between to keep guys interested.

DVD EXTRAS:
The extras “Poolside With the Band Camp Girls”

“Band Camp’s Dirty Secrets” isn’t titillating at all. Mostly it’s a camera following around the cast who talks about the film as they film with portable cameras.

“Rover Cam Uncut” is supposed to be the things that we don’t see in the movies—everything that happens outside of the world of Stiffler. It’s uninteresting.

I wish I had seen the “Unrated Love Lessons With Ginger Lynn” when I was a teen. It sure would have helped.

“Band Camp Girls Music Video” the girls dance to “Baby Got Back” with clothes on—unlike in the movie so guys don’t get too excited.

FRANKLY: The funny thing about American Pie: Band Camp is that it delivers what American Pie never did: Flesh. The original American Pie was portrayed as a film like Porky’s and being dirty and raunchy. Band Camp delivers the goods in terms of raunchiness but lacks a cast and story.
