Angel: The Complete Third Season

Angel: The Complete Third Season
Cast: David Boreanaz
Studio: Fox
Rating: 7.5/10

Corporate Line: As a single father, Angel must deal with his baby’s kidnapping and later, his revenge when his son Conner returns as a teenager in Fox Home Entertainment’s
“Angel” Season Three DVD Collection. Nominated for “favorite actor in a series” by TV Guide David Boreanaz shines in “Angel” Season Three, the DVD Collection features all 22 episodes from the third season and will be available as a six disc DVD set on February 10. Joss Whedon, the creator and executive producer of the international hit series “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”, continues to humorously explore the twists and turns of adulthood set against a backdrop of supernatural adventure in the third season of “Angel.”

The Story: Any fan of Angel knows that first season was episodic with a different monster each week for Angel to take on, similar to that of Buffy. In season 1 there was an attempt at a story line but it never caught on until later that season and into the next season.

The third season picks up the storyline left hanging from season two. Season three was not a let down; if anything it proved Angel the series’ viability and longevity. The best part of season three was how the entire show became darker. It was at this point in the show that Angel actually started to outshine the Buffy series.

Most impressive is how Darla’s character has expanded since Buffy. Speaking of changes; the characters Cordelia and Wesley grow monumentally. Although it was Cordelia’s strange new powers that was the hardest to accept.

Angel’s storyline carries many ups and downs through the season – this might be part of the reason why you end up watching the show straight through.

What makes season three one of the strongest is the dedication to subplots. The show isn’t all one plot plus a monster that Angel had to finish off before the end.

The Extras: There is nothing unexpected. There is a commentary on some episodes – “Lullaby,” “Billy,” and “Waiting In The Wings.” There are outtakes and screen tests for the new actors Amy Acker and Vincent Kartheiser.

Frankly: Fans of Angel already know how fantastic season three was – those who need to catch up might find themselves doing so in one sitting.
