Game Company’s Description: The world’s most popular soccer game returns to America! With its pure soccer approach, Winning Eleven has become the clear favorite of soccer fans everywhere and is widely regarded as the definitive soccer gaming experience. The series returns to North America with Winning Eleven 7, representing a mammoth step forward over its predecessor. Every element of the game has been tweaked, reworked and enhanced resulting in the most realistic and pure soccer experience available.
Look: The visuals are fantastic. The animations are well done and the motion-capture is are top notch. EA has added a great deal of depth to the players and is more realistic. The cut scenes are very well animated; you will be impressed. There are the reactions to foul calls, where they yell at the ref, wave their arms, and are amazed by the call and look exasperated.
Feel: IfIF not then the great training mode will help you get right into the action. Those who have played WE7I in the past won’t find it hard to get their bearings right away; however there are some new moves that might want you to train. The new additions are ball handling that adds a great depth that had not previously been there. But don’t get carried away thinking you are Pele by doing step-overs and spins—it’ll only get you in trouble.
There are some issues with penalty calls and other calls by the lineman. The funny thing is that when you get mad and see the instant replay you start to feel a little childish for throwing your controller at the television.
Hear: The commentators Peter Brackley and Trevor Brookings are good. The crowd noise is fantastic compared to the terrible music that has been added.
Frankly: You will get a lot of bang for your buck. I’ve been playing this for hours on end and can’t get enough. With the many modes there isn’t a reason why you have to stop, unless you suffer humiliating defeats to your friends who seem to never leave.
