Vanishing Point

Vanishing Point
Game: Vanishing Point
Platform: Dreamcast
Studio: Crave
Rating: 6.5/10

Vanishing Point is as fun as it is frustrating. Which will finish first? Read on.

Look: If you’ve ever played Ridge Racer, you know exactly what you are dealing with here. Great graphics from the cars right down to the scenery.

Feel: The handling can go way beyond frustrating. Vanishing Point is a race against the clock, which pits you against other racers who want to beat that time and even the public gets in your way. You have to work your way up the rankings to get better control of your ride as well as new and improved vehicles. I think the cars you start off with are just too hard for their own good. It could really put people off without giving them a chance to really feel the game out, especially those who rent before they buy.

Hear: Honestly, I found the music to be annoying and monotonous.

Finally: Luckily, the further you get in the game, the better it gets. Otherwise this thing would have been a flop. I like the modes like Stunt Driver where you can practice technique. If you have the time, you may find you enjoyed the game more than I did. On looks alone it’s pretty sweet, but with sort of shoddy gameplay, it’s almost all looks and no play.
