Tekken Tag Tournament

Tekken Tag Tournament
Game: Tekken Tag Tournament
Platform: PS2
Studio: Namco
Rating: 8.5/10

Those in love with the fighting genre, and Tekken, will be salivating to get one of the best games now on what will surely be the hottest gaming system: the PlayStation 2.

Look: This is the first game I got to play on the new PS2. Impressive, indeed, even though the Dreamcast has a game called Soul Calibur that would give it a run for its money. The most impressive things Tekken Tag has to offer is the realistic character textures and the solid backgrounds. Sure, this is a video game, but Tekken Tag is really pushing the envelope of the visual realms. The fighting can look a bit unreal, but the thing that bothered me most, and this is the thing I loved most about Soul Calibur, is the fighting ring isn’t a part of the background.

Feel: If you are at all familiar with past Tekken releases, then this game will be a snap to pick up. The moves are fantastic and you are able to easily switch between characters with all sorts of cool things in store. I think in the end it’s down to just button crushing. Then again, I’m a bit lazy and hate trying to figure out a hundred moves for one guy even when it means I could destroy my opponent in a cooler and more precise manner.

Hear: Good soundtrack. The sound effects are what I look for most in a fight game. Each character seems to have their own sounds and they change depending on the arena. Very cool.

Finally: Get a friend, pay someone to play if you must, because this is where the real fun is. I thought Tekken Tag Tournament would blow my mind, but it didn’t quite do that. I was impressed, but don’t think you will wet yourself when you see it for the first time.
