PLAY: EA has been perfecting the swing in this franchise and it finally feels natural. You move your analog stick and your golfer moves with the stick motion. Anyone that has played the console version will feel completely at ease hitting the ground running. There is a great tutorial for those players who haven’t played before.
You can get into the game immediately with quick play mode. If you want to go for a whole career there is the much deeper Legends Tour. In this mode you can win cash and medals—Cash is good to buy all sorts of items in the pro shop or pick up some skills.
You can play your friends head-to-head with the built-in Wi-Fi. You can take them in a game of “Bingo Bango Bongo” which is basically speed golf.
GRAPHICS: The PSP version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour looks very good. This is perhaps the best looking PSP game to date. There is texture issues however the game has been designed seemingly toned down to avoid the blocky polygons of the players.
SOUND: The commentary by Gary McCord and David Feherty is very good. The sounds of the game are similar to the console versions—there really isn’t much to talk about this is golf after all.
FRANKLY: Tiger Woods PGA Tour is a fantastic game for the PSP, especially for those who love golf games. It’s quite a bit of fun and has tons of replay value. Recently I found myself stuck in the airport waiting for another flight and Tiger Woods PGA Tour kept me interested for at least three straight hours and I’m still playing it today.
