Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2

Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2
Game: Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2
Platform: Dreamcast
Studio: Crave
Rating: 8.5/10

Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 is better than the original and it just might be the best race game that the Dreamcast has to offer. If you’re not familiar with the original, the idea is that you start out with a ghetto ride and search the highways of Tokyo looking for an opponent. If you find one, either you or the other car flashes their headlights. Then it’s on if they choose to except your challenge.

Look: Are you kidding me? Absolutely amazing. The cars look perfect and the highways are top notch. I’m not easily impressed, but I loved the look and

Feel: The feel was almost as good as it looked. The cars handle well, but occasionally there seems to be something beyond your control pushing your car along. I found myself often beating good cars with my ghetto model. Odd.

Hear: Soundtrack is okay. Cars are pretty cool. Hardly anything that adds or detracts from the game.

Finally: With a few modes to add to your experience, you’ll find that the Quest mode is the one that keeps you busy and coming back for more. The big problem I found is that you have only one track. Even one gigantic track gets boring after a while. Also there is no two-player mode, so your friends will just have to watch. I have the feeling that if you rent this one, you’ll end up buying it.
