Bon Jovi – Crush

Bon Jovi
Artist: Bon Jovi
Title: Crush
Label: Mercury
Rating: 6.5/10

Bon Jovi is still around. Let’s understand that and accept it as fact. I know this because here I am with their latest release, Crush. Even before listening, I noted their updated look and that the packaging for the album is really cool. And in a few photos, I swear Jon Bon Jovi looks just like that pretty boy, Johnny, from the Goo Goo Dolls. The similarities don’t end there. Bon Jovi makes melodies, see “Say It Ain’t So”, that are enjoyable and radio friendly.

I’m embarrassed to admit to the occasions I really enjoyed this album. “It’s My Life” is fun, and Bon Jovi proves they can still kick out the ballads, as with “Thank You For Loving Me” and “Next 100 Years”. “Just Older” is a great look at life and growing old. “Save The World” has a great premise, but falls short. “I Got The Girl” finds Bon Jovi losing steam as the album comes to a close.

Bon Jovi has moved past the big hair and spandex comfortably into the new millennium. Their sound hasn’t changed much, but I’m telling you that is a good thing.
