Against all odds, the leadership choices you make before and during the heat of battle will define your legacy as a hero in this highly anticipated addition to the franchise.

In Medal of Honor European Assault, the story line is the star. Europe 1942. These are desperate hours for Allied forces as the Nazi war machine rages across a devastated European landscape. You are US Army Lieutenant William Holt, hand-picked by William “Wild Bill” Donovan to be the first field agent of the newly formed Office of Strategic Services-the OSS. Medal of Honor European Assault makes you the driving force in the struggle to liberate Europe.

As with the original Medal of Honor, producers sought counsel from numerous expert sources to make certain the game is historically accurate and as realistic as possible. The EA Los Angeles development team continues to work closely with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society to ensure that Medal of Honor European Assault reflects the ideals and integrity of the prestigious Medal of Honor. PLAY: You will have to take on four different campaigns and eleven missions—all with real historic ramifications right down to the Battle of the Bulge.

European Assault is a huge improvement over the last version. European Assault’s open platform allows players to choose their own path. In the past you were basically told where you could and couldn’t go. This also adds to many different scenarios. Some are positive as you can avoid certain things like tanks, however if you make the wrong choice you could find yourself deeper in enemy territory than you should have been.

Another aspect of this openness are the secondary objectives that make it important to do some searching. You can earn power-ups and more if you can defeat some of the opponents who are chosen as your targets.

There is an element of control over your team. You have three men with you that are nearly clones. They do mostly what you do. If you make a silly mistake bet they won’t do much better. The game plays much like its predecessors. There is a nice arsenal of weapons.

GRAPHICS: The biggest issues are the graphics. They are very weak and a big surprise for an EA game. The cutscenes are fantastic and the environments are nice. The problem is the characters are all very poorly modeled.

SOUND: Absolutely, the best aspect of European Assault is the audio. There is a sense that you are really in battle, especially if your system is hooked up to surround sound. The music is also great—almost like you’d expect in a movie like Band of Brothers.

FRANKLY: Medal of Honor: European Assault is fairly short—8-10 hours. Even in that short amount of time you will surely get your money’s worth. One missing element is online mode—this is the perfect game for it. Overall this is one of the better WWII shooting games—with its open platform, stellar audio, and the fun-factor alone.
