Metal Gear Acid

Metal Gear Acid
Game: v
Platform: PSP
Studio: Konami
Rating: 7/10

GAME STUDIO DESCRIPTION: The legendary Metal Gear series comes to the PSP in METAL GEAR ACID. Experience a whole new gameplay system that focuses on deep tactical strategy with an entirely new Metal Gear storyline. As the role of top-secret agent, Solid Snake, players will make calculated decisions to plan out their infiltration strategy and accomplish the mission in a turn-based style of game. Through the use of strategic battle cards, players are given different abilities and stealth tactics to achieve the mission objectives. METAL GEAR ACID delivers the trademark stealth-action experience in a completely new game for the portable gaming audience to enjoy.

PLAY: The PSP version of Metal Gear might seem quite familiar for those who’ve played this franchise before. The view is the same but Acid has some differences. Acid, like its predecessors also involves stealth, boasts a different layout. Snake moves one block at a time and to complete a mission you must build up cards. These cards are used to move and gather weapons.

The tutorial is lacking. In Acid it’s almost easier to learn by dropping into the game and making mistakes. There are damage meters and different values dependent upon the way an enemy is attacked. If you attack from the front it causes more damage than from the side. It’s interesting to discover what are your strengths and weaknesses dependent upon attacks and what is the easiest way to get in and out without alerting others.

Acid has good deal of replay value as you can collect cards that contain different characters. You are rated at the end of your mission depending on kills, speed, etc.

GRAPHICS: Acid looks a lot like its predecessors. The characters and the soldiers are very similar. There are occasions when the graphics bog down gameplay however there is a lot going on and the graphics seemed pushed to the limits of the PSP.

SOUND: The music and sound effects are crisp.

FRANKLY: The wireless unlockable is a real treat. Metal Gear Acid is deep and a great addition to the PSP. It’s quite surprising to see a Metal Gear release on the PSP looks so good. We could never expect such a strong release for the DS.
