PLAY: A 3D map encompasses all of Middle-Earth that gives you a chance to overview this world. You must decide where to fight and perhaps protect. You can control a few armies to control and play in real time. Once the battle is won you start some place else doing the exact same thing. Armies grow stronger with experience which makes them even harder to stop.
The armies are based on those from the film; Rohan, Gondor, Mordor, and Isengard. They are like they movie counterparts and add to the excitement of the game. What sets these armies apart are the upgrade in weapons and emotions. Emotions have to do with your armies moral. The higher the moral the better your troops fight. If the moral is low they might run away from a fight that they aren’t necessarily losing leaving you vulnerable.
One issue is that the battles are extremely large and hard to maintain anything more than overpowering the other troops. In other games even an army that is half the size can destroy the larger simply because of skills and method of attack—not here.
GRAPHICS: The graphics are top notch and well rendered in real time. However if you have a system that doesn’t meet the recommended system resources the graphics may not live up to expectations. There is an extensive amount of detail from the large battles to single fights.
SOUND: The voice acting is astonishing. Many of the actors lend their voices; Elijah Wood, McKellen, Lee, Sean Astin, etc. The score is magnificent. The sound effects rival those from the movie.
FRANKLY: The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth is a gigantic game that will offer a phenomenal amount of gameplay. The fact that you can control Mordor or Isengard makes it even more intriguing as you can change the entire ending.
