Xenosaga II

Xenosaga II
Game: Xenosaga II
Platform: Playstation 2
Studio: Namco
Rating: 8/10

GAME STUDIO DESCRIPTION: Devastate your opponents with innovative cooperative combat techniques, refined boost systems and a unique zone attack/zone break mechanic.Engage your enemies with larger, more powerful mechs, now featuring their own independent, tactical battle system. Customize your party with a vast array of power-ups, advanced attacks and over 100 different skills. Challenge more than 30 side quests for hours of action-packed adventure.

PLAY: Fighting isn’t always mandatory, but be prepared to throw down. Each enemy has a different area (labeled A, B, and C) where one is weaker than the other. Also, putting attacks together weakens them further; however it is important to go for the weakest area first. Xenaosaga Episode II isn’t merely pounding buttons and hoping that it works out for the best. You can hold extra attacks, “stocking,” which saves attacks that can be used when you decide.

GRAPHICS: The graphical design is cartoonish anime style. Thankfully even the cartoon style doesn’t repress the fluidity or the emotion of the characters as they are very expressive. The environments are well detailed and look quite impressive.

SOUND: The soundtrack is minimal. The voices aren’t well done. Most are annoying and worse is that the words aren’t matched well with the animation.

FRANKLY: Xenosaga Episode II takes 30 plus hours to complete. This sequel doesn’t hold all the strengths of the first. It has updated the game play however the story has been lost and given up for a more fluid and slicker look.
