PLAY: One great thing about X-Men Legends II is that you can play the good and the bad mutants as a team. Who would have thought?

The game is divided into five levels—each level is headed by a mini-boss under the ultimate boss Apocalypse. The great thing is that these bosses hold tight to the history of X-Men. The entire storyline would actually make for one great movie.

Throughout the game well known characters pop up—although they aren’t all playable. One great aspect of gameplay is the ability to switch between mutants… that is if you don’t get them killed. There are fifteen players that you can chose from which should really satisfy the hardcore X-men fan.

Much like the previous release you control four characters in a posse. You can play with friends or control one player at a time. It’s important that you switch as specific characters are necessary for certain puzzles—so don’t get them killed early. The further in the game you get the stronger your partners and your character gets. The further along you get the more you gather the use of specific powers. One of the biggest issues is the AI of your partners. You can have them sit back and wait or stick close but there are the occasions when they seem to get in the way.

GRAPHICS: Legends II looks almost identical to the previous version. The environments are different but this isn’t a giant leap forward in graphic design. The environments are made to smash apart—but a lot of that is to no avail. Often you get stuck smashing things for the sake of destruction to no end.

SOUND: There is a decent soundtrack. Patrick Stewart voices Professor Xavier—but that is the extent of the good voice acting. Mostly the dialogue is necessary but not exciting.

FRANKLY: X-Men Legends II is a must own—especially for fans of the X-Men series. It takes a heck of a long time to get through the huge levels and finish the bosses. If you are playing with friends you can get through it a bit faster—although it’s one of the rare games that are just as fun going solo.
