GAME STUDIO DESCRIPTION: The speed, competition, power, and adrenaline of IndyCar Series returns in IndyCar Series 2005. Fully endorsed by the Indy Racing League, IndyCar Series 2005 offers the complete, authentic Indy racing experience, with all new features including head to head online play.
GRAPHICS: Perhaps the reason Indycar is selling for about $20 is because the graphics are so poor.
CONTROLS: The first place you should start is the game’s tutorial. It’s important to get the basics down at least —I was surprised how little I knew about Indy racing rules. There are master classes which rank in order; bronze, silver, and gold. You are well advised to spend the time to make your way through each and every rank or else you might find the actual races impossible to win.
There are a lot of details and you need to spend the time to sort through them. You really have to tweak your car. I knew almost nothing about indy cars but if you pay attention and spend some time there is a lot of information to help.
The tracks are all oval, surprise, however each requires different tweaks. There are fifteen tracks which are all part of the real indy racing circuit. You can limit the laps for each race down to ten or go all the way to 200—good luck with that.
Indycar is a true challenge. If you crash it’s extremely hard to catch up to the leaders. It will get frustrating, but it makes it extremely nerve-racking and that’s a good thing.
SOUND: The sound effects are sub par. The pit crew is refreshing to hear over the engine noise. The soundtrack is appalling rock.
FRANKLY: The only true way to enjoy Indycar Series 2005 is taking on friends or going online. At least if you crash chances are they will too, which gives you a better chance than you have against most of the time versus the computer.
