Boomkat is made up of Taryn Manning and her brother Kellin. You might remember Taryn as the Eminem’s ex in 8 Mile or from her Calvin Klein ads. Their sound is something similar to Macy Gray and Eminem.
The Good:
“The Wreckoning” – A hot track that Taryn makes as her own.
“Daydreamin’” – Lovely.
“Left Side/Right Side” – A song that seems to be more than just a dance hall trip.
The Average:
“Yo!Verture” – Neat. Melodic. But when the brother and sister act try to rap it turns you off.
“Now Understand This” – The track has a good flavor however the rapping aspect isn’t the highlight even though Taryn does her best to cover Macy Gray.
“What U Do 2 Me” and “B4 It’s 2 L8” – Overly sappy.
The Bad:
“Crazylove”
Boomkat starts off pouncing but starts to fall off. There is a ton of potential here with Kellin dropping hot samples and Taryn’s amazing voice. These two could be going places.
