PLAY: Gun Showdown is the Grand Theft Auto of westerns. It’s fun to venture through the country side shooting bad guys and entering into tournaments. You’re just a lonely gunman trying to make his way through the world. The problem is that the game has a limited map and isn’t anywhere near as deep as GTA release.
One of the biggest problems is that Gun Showdown actually seems to make shooting harder than the difficult to use GTA. Opt for auto aim if you hope to have a chance in hell to hit the broadside of a barn. Switching guns seems to be just as difficult. It really doesn’t make a lot of sense. This isn’t an ideal console port. There are also a few different types of gameplay; quick play and multiplayer modes. You can do some quail hunting and play a couple hands of cards. The ad-hoc multiplayer mode allows up to six players. There are different types of games that can be played from cards and a death match.
GRAPHICS: The cutscenes feature some great animations. The overall graphics are surprisingly good. This is an impressive looking game for the PSP.
SOUND: The voice acting is top notch with individuals like Kris Kristofferson. The sound effects are fantastic—even the wild animals offer something to hear.
FRANKLY: Gun Showdown is an up and down affair. There are some things that are the same and some that are different from the console versions. Even with a few of the problems Gun Showdown is still a lot of fun. Gun Showdown and I took a recent plane trip and it gave me at least six straight hours of pure enjoyment.
