The Getaway

The Getaway
Game: The Getaway
Platform: Playstation 2
Studio: Sony
Rating: 6/10

Game Studio Synopsis: The Getaway offers shooting and driving action in gigantic London environments, from busy streets to gritty warehouses, that are re-created in obsessive, photorealistic detail. How gigantic? One of the developers boasted that it takes 15 minutes of real time to drive from one end of the city to the other. The game follows the story of an ex-bank robber, a vigilante cop, and their battle against Charlie Jolson, a notorious crime boss of London’s East End. This game will inevitably draw comparisons to Grand Theft Auto III and Max Payne, but its ambitious scope puts it in a class by itself.

Look: The graphics are decent. Not great. The cars look a bit better than Vice City, but that is where the comparisons end. The cities are bland and can’t compare to Vice City.

Feel: It’s a GTA rip-off. Period. There is nothing unique about this game. There really isn’t anything fun either.

Hear: The thick accents make for a tough listen. Not even the f word can save this.

Finally: If you are in the market for a less developed Grand Theft Auto than the Getaway might be for you. The only way to recommend this game is if you’ve finished Vice City and need another fix.
