Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2
Game: Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2
Platform: Playstation 2
Studio: Ubisoft
Rating: 6.5/10

GAME STUDIO DESCRIPTION: On July 4th, 2007, a North Korean missile base is hacked and used to launch a Cruise missile against the USS Clarence E. Walsh in the Korea Strait. US Intelligence suspects that the North Koreans were not responsible for the attack, and the US decides to strictly defend against North Korea. While they mass troops to defend Seoul, the Americans also send Third Echelon agent Sam Fisher in North Korea to investigate. At the same time, the Ghosts are deployed behind enemy lines to carry out sabotage.

PLAY: The Korean’s are unbelievable as enemies simply because they never seem to miss their targets—even when you are hiding under thick brush which in the previous version was secure. If you can’t find a rock or a real hard place then you might find yourself swallowing enemy bullets.

This makes for an increasingly tough game. If you die closer to the end of a mission you’ll have to start from the beginning of the mission which is frustrating. And because Ghost Recon 2 is mostly a narrative everything is exactly the same no matter how many times you go through the same mission which means you’ll do the exact same thing over again.

Commanding your squad isn’t nearly as interesting as it is in other Clancy releases. It is easy to just let them go off and do their own thing and go about your business simply because there are no elements that make it necessary. The game that once relied upon stealth no longer does and it adds to the frustration.

GRAPHICS: The graphics are actually better than the original. The brush and underbrush and leaves are detailed well however the characters are poor.

FRANKLY: Ghost Recon 2 can go either way—some hate it and some love it. We tend to lean towards disliking it. There are some changes that will turn off those who really enjoyed the previous Ghost Recon.
