Game Company’s Description: Russia has fallen under the control of ultra-nationalistic leaders intent on rebuilding the Iron Curtain. This leads to conflict with NATO as Russia attempts to reclaim the breakaway republic of Georgia, and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. As the war escalates, casualties mount, hostages are taken and the Ghosts are sent in.
Take command of the Ghosts through a series of missions that range from demolitions, to search and rescue, to all-out firefights for survival.
Look: This version is an update to the previous in regards to graphics. The textures are much improved and quite a bit smoother. The models have been overhauled and not so blocky this time around.
Feel: Island Thunder is deep. You command your squad and instruct them what do, where to go and which tactics to use. It’s amazing to watch them work.
If you get hit your guy is more than likely out. This isn’t Commando where you get shot ten times before you get back into the game. You get shot and your ass is grass. This is much more realistic than most games of this genre. Don’t believe that this is a shooter, it’s in my opinion a sim. It’s great when your teammate spots a bad guy and locks him on. The AI for the teams are remarkable. Yet that for the enemy isn’t as impressive. Many times the enemies run right into the shots and are killed. Not very bright.
Hear: The gun shots are great. They sound like they are coming towards you and you know when they wiz buy. Thunder rips through the sky and it sounds like it’s happening outside. Wonderful. The voice acting on the other hand is really lacking.
Frankly: Even though it has a lot of the same things as the first Ghost Recon release. The first was great, but the expansion is no slouch.
