Game Company’s Description: Riding it hard, fast and anywhere, Freestyle MetalX is a totally unique offering that caters to the action sport and mass-market gamer with diverse, lawless freestyle motocross mayhem. Gamers and motocross fanatics can “be sick all over” as they experience firsthand the extreme thrills and spills of the first freestyle motocross videogame. Featuring a seemingly unlimited stunt system, expansive worlds, eight insane game modes and sub-games, Freestyle MetalX lets players cancan and rodeo their way through vast environments as they interact with and trick-off everything from swimming pools to skyscrapers. Freestyle MetalX also offers extreme side events where players can gain popularity and money in career mode by executing flawless maneuvers such as Bus Jumping, Wall of Death, Longest Wheelie, and more.
Look: FMX has a plain, weak design for their player models. The textures aren’t up to par with games of the same sort. I’m curious, why do the characters look so great during the menus yet in the game they look so tired? It doesn’t seem that visuals were the number one priority for this game and this is proven through the liquids that you see throughout the game like the poor water effects and the really bad blood that doesn’t pour but seems to fall symmetrically. This is usually why games don’t come close to the timeless nature of a Tony Hawk release.
Feel: Each extreme sport game that comes out is going to get compared to Tony Hawk and this is no different.
This isn’t one game that you are going to jump right in and start doing great. There are some things that take getting used to. You have to clutch to jump and fill two meters and not just one. Best advice is not to skip the tutorials.
Once you get a hang of the game you’ll find yourself searching all over the place. The levels are huge and interesting to explore. I enjoyed the Big Air competition. Good for a laugh is the Human Darts where you launch your rider off your bike at a target. Ouch.
Hear: Decent tunes if you are into Heavy metal. The sound effects are often terrible. You’d be better off just listening to your radio with a cd of your choice.
Frankly: Big levels add a degree of enjoyment and extended gameplay. While not the best looking game it’s still a hell of a lot of fun to play.
