GAME STUDIO DESCRIPTION: Evil Dead: Regeneration follows along with Ash, the hero of the Evil Dead movies. Ash is the only survivor of the evils unleashed by the Necronomicon, that night in the cabin. Ash is blamed for it and sent to the Sunny Meadows institute for the criminally insane. He thinks he’s safe and can rest now, but the perverted experiments of Dr. Reinhard are about to change that. Hell-bent on using science to harness the Necronomicon’s powers, the mad doctor unleashes the book’s all-powerful Evil on the world
Releasing a new slew of Deadites, monsters and spirits, twisting reality into a hellish strudel — leaving Ash to get his chainsaw and shotgun to fight them off again
PLAY: Evil Dead Regeneration is a heck of a lot of fun. The best aspects are the amusing animations. As you progress through the game the weapons become necessary even after you’ve learned to enjoy and master other weapons—like the chainsaw. The flamethrower, for instance, is fantastic while the harpoon is more of a pain. The problem is it’s seemingly mandatory to use in certain situations. The camera works well because it’s set up at the best angle to play. One area that was lacking was the puzzles. They become extremely repetitive. It can be fun in the beginning but it starts to wear thin.
GRAPHICS: The graphics are done in a cartoon style. The cutscenes are okay—if you like games that don’t look realistic. I would have preferred something else—something closer to Doom and less like some bad Saturday morning ‘toon. There are some environments that are exciting to navigate like the swamp and yet you find areas that are a merely means to an end.
There are animations of you hacking up the dead. It can be cool, but at the same time the action is taken out of your hands so when you finish the animation you better be ready to take back control.
SOUND: Weak sound effects. The voice acting however is a lot of fun. It’s great that Bruce Campbell lends his voice so we don’t have to sit through some monotonous guy pretending to be Bruce.
FRANKLY: Evil Dead Regeneration is a lot of fun. Don’t buy it for great quality—buy it for hours of zombie killing fun.
