GAME STUDIO DESCRIPTION: Gamers will control Catwoman as they play the movie, utilizing her unique cat-like skills, senses and cunning to defeat her enemies.
Catwoman is based upon the DC Comics character. The film and game follow the story of Patience Phillips played by Halle Berry, who is killed after she uncovers a dark secret held by her employers. Brought back to life by a rare Egyptian cat, she becomes Catwoman and sets out to discover the truth about herself and her murderer.
Boasting incredible acrobatic skills, the video game Catwoman can leap across roofs, run up walls, pounce on prey, utilize unique “cat senses,” and avoid enemy bullets with feline grace. In addition, she can use her whip to swing through the air and utilize the fully interactive environments to trap or knock her foes unconscious.
The game will take players through numerous levels set in six different locations from the movie, including the jewelry store, the Hedare Factory, and Hedare’s mansion and grounds. Gamers will encounter all the key characters from the movie, including three challenging bosses: Armando, Hedare’s head bodyguard; Wesley, the evil and twisted Hedare henchman and Laurel Hedare, the beautiful face behind the cosmetics empire.
GRAPHICS: Graphics are the one bright spot. Catwoman is nicely detailed. The environments are impressive and offer the darkside that you’d expect. The reason anyone is going to buy this is to see if it looks like Halle Berry—surprisingly it does.
CONTROLS: The game is about revenge—getting back at those who turned you into a cat-woman. Catwoman climbs, hangs, swings, and uses her whip for a variety of things—making the game fun isn’t one of them. If you came to whip some butt its not going to be easy with the why the camera is set up. Many times you don’t even see the enemy coming until you are attacked.
Fight its not easy. The mechanics aren’t useful. In order to fight you tap the right analog stick. As you progress Catwoman can disarm enemies with her whip. In domination mode it’s Matrix-like and completely uninteresting. There is a comical aspect to the game. No one seems to die. When you ‘kill’ someone they just stop attacking. Push someone off a building. They get up and shake there head–interesting to say the least.
SOUND: Halle doesn’t offer much in the way of voice acting—the bad script doesn’t help. The music is okay—just don’t expect it to entertain.
FRANKLY: Unfortunately the game is a lot like the movie—bad. Is it EA’s fault? Not when they are following a script that was already bad—if you’ve seen the movie you’ll know exactly what that means.
