Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Game: Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance
Platform: Playstation 2
Studio: Interplay
Rating: 9/10

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is chop full of fun.

Look: First and foremost this is a gorgeous 3D platform. It does recall Diablo, but there are some major differences. The lightening effects are outstanding. The way light reflects from objects is incredible and might cast you in some sort of daze. The visible feats are not to be overlooked by gamers.

The character animation is as good as expected. From sheer destruction of the lizard-men to the rest of the bad guys you must destroy. Look out for the chunks you’ll need to slice off of the Kobolds. Ewe, nasty, but I bet you can’t take your eyes off it.

Feel: Another similarity to Diablo is the game controls. Honestly there isn’t much to outline here, the main objective is to swing that sword and cut, hack and destroy anything in your way. The second objective is to solve some puzzles along the way. Don’t worry that good old clean fun gets impended by menial tasks, believe me you’ll hardly notice. Chop, chop.

Hear: There is a good atmospheric nature. There are the obvious necessary sound effects like the destruction of all. It’s always nice to hear the wind whip through a slicing sword. From the rustling leaves, to the crackle of a fire right to swooshing water, this game nails it. Although there isn’t exactly a lot of depth to the voice-overs they are still particularly good.

Frankly: With a good amount of depth and characters you will find some good replay value. Some may find however that one time through is enough. Dark Alliance is one of the rare games that you wish was a good amount longer because I’ll be damned if this isn’t fun.
