Battle Engine Aquila

Battle Engine Aquila
Game: Battle Engine Aquila
Platform: Xbox
Studio: Infogrames
Rating: 8/10

Game Studio Synopsis: An epic battle rages between the Forseti and the Muspell as the oceans rise and land disappears. The Forseti compel you to help protect their remaining land by taking charge of the ultimate war machine – the Battle Engine. Whether in walking or in flying mode, you have access to an array of destructive weapons and you receive constant direction from base command. By commanding a device so powerful and advanced, your battlefield decisions will shape the direction of each engagement and, ultimately, the entire war.

Look: This is really a mixed bag. There seems to be quite a lot of poor textures and not at all up to par with what you expect from an Xbox game. The underground scenes are quite cool, however you know they could look a whole lot better.

The effects of the fight often look great with pieces of destruction all around. The weapons look cool and the enemies aren’t too shabby either. You just wonder if they couldn’t have given us a little more eye candy.

Feel: First go through training mode or don’t think about stepping right into battle. You have to learn the skills of maneuvering this ship around. Once you get the hang of it however you’ll find all that time was well worth it.

You can earn new Battle Engines much like you would in most games through moving on up through the challenges. The part that leaves you confused is why the ships are almost completely the same.

More often than not you are destroying everything in your path. However there are occasions where you must help out your ground troops without total destruction. Honestly I spent more time blasting than doing the methodical thing. It’s easy to get caught up in destruction because it is honestly easier, however its nice to know that there is more depth here than blindly blasting away.

Hear: Okay sound effects. The music is quite good, but it’s the dialogue that saves the day here.

Finally: Worth buying. You’ll have a whole lot of time to get a hang of this and after you do you’ll still have a lot to keep you occupied.
