GAME STUDIO DESCRIPTION: The award-winning Battlefield franchise invades the high tech frontlines of modern warfare in the new sequel, Battlefield 2™. The game brings the intensity and excitement of Battlefield 1942™ into the modern era with enhanced team play and the latest, most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems available to man.

In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, the Chinese, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game’s 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with up to 64 players. Additionally, persistent character growth allows players to rise through the ranks.

An all-new game engine and physics system brings the modern battlefield to life like never before. The new material penetration feature measures weapons’ ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive.

Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed environments, from city streets to remote forests, in some of the most notorious hot spots around the world. Each map in Battlefield 2 supports the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle- to-player ratio and an optimized gameplay experience.

Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates.

Soldier kits now affect vehicles that players utilize on the battlefield. For instance, the medic kit can transform a vehicle into a mobile aid station and the special ops kit can render aircraft undetectable to enemy radar.

PLAY: Battlefield 2 is based in the near future finding the U.S., China, and the Midwest Coalition locked into war. The battlefields are comprises of twelve different locations. There is a ton of strategy necessary—particularly in any urban setting.

Because every aspect of Battlefield 2 is so unpredictable it keeps you on your toes what it lacks is a distinctive look and feel for each area. Every location feels like you’ve already been there before. One thing that spares any issues is the astonishing feeling of being there. You feel as though you are right in the middle of battle as hell reigns all around. You can almost smell the fear.

There is also a difference in game play depending upon the number of players which can range from 16, 32, to 64. The best part of these teams and the numbers are that you can really coordinate this time around and come up with a real commander. You can even split up into smaller groups. You could attempt to have a group circle around to the front and one continue to the flank and create all sorts of different strategies.

What is most impressive is the communication aspect. You literally have the ability to speak to your squads and then on another channel with the commander. This game is sectioned off just as you’d expect a real military to be. It’s as close as you might get to ever suiting up. The commander is your eye in the sky and keeps tabs on activities. He can send out spy drones or drop supplies. There is so much depth that you almost forget you is inside of a video game.

There are a lot of great things to earn. Your abilities, among tons of different stats, are saved. What is great about that is it unlocks weapons. You can also get medals—it’s really nothing more than show but it might help you get to the commander position.

If all this commander and online play freaks you out and don’t play well with others than you can go it alone with the computer. The computer this time around is much sharper. They may even surprise you on occasion with their skills and ruthlessness.

GRAPHICS: With a powerful computer this game is gorgeous. Battlefield 2 is one of the best looking games we’ve played this year. What is most astonishing is the way everything remains amazing to look at even as it all remains in motion. As the dust is kicked up from machines or artillery it’s all shown in devastating and exhilarating detail.

SOUND: You can communicate with your friends or whoever else wants to play. There is nothing like heading into battle and hearing voices sounding stressed because of hell happening around. It creates a sense of vertigo—and it works perfectly. The sound effects are amazing. The sound of a gun popping off shots and tanks rolling into position—everything that you dreamed of is within.

FRANKLY: Although you will get some a-holes that team-kill they will get either booted by the server or voted out. Thankfully that is a rare occasion and most of the gamers you’ll encounter want the same buzz you get when playing.
