Tyrese – 2000 Watts

Tyrese
Artist: Tyrese
Title: 2000 Watts
Label: RCA
Rating: 6/10

Tyrese blew up and now the world is anticipating his second release. Not bad for a guy who got his start by being seen in a commercial for Coca-Cola.

2000 Watts brings the same smooth R&B flavor. The first single, “I Like Them Girls”, gives all the fans everything they want with a great hook. Snoop Dogg duets with Tyrese on “Just A Baby Boy”, a tale about boys making babies and not living up to their responsibilities. “There For Me (Baby)” is a honey sweet ballad.

The overdone vocal effects of “I Ain’t The One” sound cool the first time you dive in, but this effect is one of the worst ways to take away from a talented vocalist. There are other tracks on the album that aren’t as painful, just more anonymous.

Tyrese has the looks and decent tracks, but his identity doesn’t come across as strong in his music as say R. Kelly’s or Maxwell’s. Tyrese shoots for that big epic sound on “Bring You Back My Away”. It’s good, just not as potent as those mentioned. Tyrese is a good singer and has all the ingredients; he just needs to make music that is all his own.
