The Line: Blur is back minus a member and as underwhelming as ever.
The Good:
“Brothers And Sisters” – Somewhere between Blur and Gorillaz.
“Moroccan Peoples Revolutionary Bowls Club” –It has the same theme and not lyrically deep yet gorgeous.
The Marginal:
“Battery In The Leg” – Wanted to like it more but I’m not sure if this moves Blur ahead two steps or back just as many.
“Ambulance” – I’m not sure if this is a song or what. It’s pretty senseless.
“Out Of Time” and “Caravan” – Cute. I wonder where the depth has gone.
“Crazy Beat” – When did Donald Duck join Blur?
“Good Song” – Good, not great.
The Ugly:
There is a lot of songs that came close to falling into this category.
Frankly: Blur’s 13 was like a long trip and when you come back the stories you have to tell are glorious. 13 gave us depth, textures, and an absolutely new direction. Blur sounded energized. Think Tank doesn’t seem to be a proper name for this album as I don’t think much thinking went into this. Where is the heart? Where is the soul? This sounds like a guy who is working on a side project. The problem is Blur seems to be more of a side project than Gorillaz. It’s a damn shame too.
