Blur – The Best of Blur

Blur
Artist: Blur
Title: The Best of Blur
Label: Virgin
Rating: 7/10

I didn’t realize there were enough Blur fans in America to warrant them releasing a greatest hits album, and then they start it off with one of my faves, “Beetlebum”. In America? I could be wrong, but I’m sure this will rock in the UK and lands east of NYC, especially when “Song 2” is best known in America for the whole ‘woo-who’ though I bet almost no one knows the group who sings it, let alone the song title.

Anyway, Blur, in case you don’t know, is one of the best bands of the ’90’s. I hate to admit it, but if you take away (What’s The Story) Morning Glory from Oasis, Blur is by far one of the world’s best imports.

The Best Of Blur has a few oldies that may be less familiar, like “There’s No Other Way”, “To The End”, and “For Tomorrow”. Blur’s best albums, The Great Escape and Blur, are well represented with just about half the songs on the album. Also comes a new track, “Music Is My Radar”. It’s a little trippy, but not really on par with the rest of the album.

Honestly, this is a great introduction to Blur, but if you can shell out a little more money, buy The Great Escape and Blur. You’ll be much more satisfied. But if you need to give a great gift of music, then The Best Of Blur is a no brainer.
