Teddy Thompson opens his self-titled album with a poignant “Wake Up”. Thompson has this soft rock sound that won’t alienate anyone, but may not find him any fans other than housewives across the country. It’s not as catchy as Sting and not as melodic as John Denver, instead falling somewhere in between the two with a very generic feel.
Thompson’s music feels safe, like someone poured chlorine over it and made it completely clean and white. Take “So Easy” where he sings “Everybody gets along with everyone/ It’s so easy.” I wouldn’t mind finding this place, but unfortunately it only exists on this album. “Thanks A Lot” has a nice little hop to it and broke me out of the listening rut.
