A decade after a meteoric rise to fame and a fall that happened just as suddenly, Tiffany is back. Yes, I’m talking about the redhead who sang “I Think We’re Alone Now”. Her latest album, The Color Of Silence, is quite a pleasant surprise. Krazie Bone and Tiffany mix and match on the single “I’m Not Sleeping”. The real surprise here is that
Krazie Bone doesn’t get dirty, nasty, or bring any of his thug persona. Nope, he sings and rhymes a bit, adding a trigger for lots of future projects. “Open My Eyes” speaks volumes. And like much of this record, it owes a lot to Alanis Morissette. “Piss You Off” falls along the same vein. “Silence” toils bitterly (‘When I was seventeen/ the world was so much brighter/ now I’ve finally found the truth and what they’ve hid from me/ the world was so much kinder”). “Christening” has a sour tongue and “Butterfly” never lets up.
“If Only” is a gentle touch on your shoulder in search of lost love. And after so many tracks that burn, it’s nice to see her tone it down. The most impressive thing about The Color Of Silence is that Tiffany co-wrote seven of the thirteen tracks. She’s come a long way from her first days as a star thirteen years ago. The songs are deeper, more passionate, and full of character. If you like Alanis, Paula Cole, or just real emotions, you will feel comfortable trying to figure out The Color Of Silence.
