Texas’ latest album not only boasts yummy pop tunes, but a sexy front woman in Spiteri McElhone. The songs do find themselves attempting to get you flowing with dance licks that play off of Ace of Base a bit too much. “Summer Son” is a perfect example of this.
“Sunday Afternoon” is seductive and, with a hot video, this track could make this album a smash. Still, as sexy and beautiful as McElhone sounds, she doesn’t make up for the huge gap left in the lack of memorable choruses and the absence of any sort of general excitement. The Hush just moves along like a train that isn’t quite sure of its way. The songs tend to bounce in and out of one another and never leave residual damage to long-term memory. Texas could be so much more, but hasn’t proved so on this release. It makes you wonder what bands are thinking about when they name their albums, but in naming their album The Hush, Texas seems to have imposed on itself a self-fulfilling prophecy.
