Remember metal? Not those pretty lab experiments like Poison, I mean like Judas Priest and Metallica? Well, that is what the intro to Sum 41’s album Half Hour Of Power reminded me of. Aside from that sizzling guitar break, these guys belong more to the Warped tour crowd than Ozzfest.
“What I Believe” is typical of today’s punk movement, a cool hook repeated time and again with a simple chord progression moving the song along. “Makes No Difference” sounds similar and comes from the same kitchen in which they cooked “What I Believe”.
“T.H.T.” reminds me of some serious skater punk from the mid-’80’s. You’ll enjoy it if you dug Suicidal Tendencies or D.R.I. Then there is the Anthrax (circa “I’m The Man”) influenced song, “Dave’s Possessed Hair/It’s What We’re All About”.
Sum 41 tears songs by you in the blink of an eye. Half Hour Of Power is truth in advertising.
