Sum 41 is back, and again they start this album with the dark intro that was on their previous release. All Killer No Filler is one of the quickest albums you’ll hear. With only one song over three minutes, you won’t mind giving each a listen again and again.
They bust the joint open with the wickedly fast “Nothing On My Back”. No filler. Next is “Never Wake Up”, which is an ode to the punk of the ’80’s, somehow fitting two verses and two chorus into fifty total seconds. No filler. Just don’t think that these guys can’t get mushy. “Heart Attack” is mushy, but still all business. No filler.
Sum 41 do their best Beastie Boys impression for “Fat Lip”, and honestly they aren’t bad hip-hoppers, especially when they are cracking you up about things like mullets. No filler. “Motivation” builds like some ’70’s big rock song mixed with the flavor that Sum 41 has made their own, yes, without the filler. The best track is “In Too Deep”. Can you say single? No filler. “Summer” is another potential hit. Again, no filler.
Sum 41 has the same pop mentality that Green Day and even Blink 182 have, but they still stay true to the soul of punk by being less than serious. They give it their all and that is why All Killer No Filler is true to life. And since they did give us plenty of killer, I will let the Iron Maiden-ish “Pain for Pleasure” go. Because I’m sure they find it as funny as I do.
