After his throat surgery, Rod Stewart is back with the remarkable Human. The title track is a mix of rock and hip beats that remind me of something Madonna has done.
“Smitten” may sound a little familiar. It has the flavor of Macy Gray, but that’s because Macy wrote the song and Rod Stewart did his best to make sure the song stayed true to its roots. He did a great job. Helicopter Girl joins Rod for a beautiful duet on “Don’t Come Around Here”. This is a team I could listen to all day long.
“Soul On Soul” is just one great pop song with a voice behind it that shall never be forgotten. “If I Had You” proves the power of love and all its abilities to change the world. Love is such an everlasting powerful feeling that enriches every song with such passion. Stewart’s cover of Curtis Mayfield’s “It Was Love That We Needed” is a perfect fit for this album.
Rod Stewart doesn’t actually write songs anymore. He’s become nothing more than a pop singer. But that is nothing to scoff at, considering that Frank Sinatra didn’t pen a tune in his lifetime. Rod Stewart has proven that time can do more than just age you; it can make you born again if you don’t let age get in your way.
