“Vegas Two Times” sounds heavier than ever but not without the resounding hook. Kelly Jones still stresses and strains his voice until it is worn and torn.
“Mr. Writer” is a bit more restrained. It lays heavy in the chorus while reliving the funkiness of its own growth.
“Step On My Old Size Nines” is a bit of a love song. It’s about growing old, but finding the love you need in between to settle in with.
“Have A Nice Day” is absolute bliss. Its happy face spreads joyfulness and a neat little story for all that listen closely.
“Rooftop” has this distinct feeling of just being a good song. Does it matter what it’s about or how it sounds as long as it sounds good?
It took a few listens, but I just fell in love. Not as easily as I did for Performance & Cocktails, but I did just the same. It’s just more mature. There’s more looking out than looking in, and it seems singer/songwriter Kelly Jones is quite an observer. His knack for taking the everyday ordinary and turning it into little melodies is quite keen. Just Enough Education To Perform may be their motto, but you’d never know they were just getting by.
