Britney Spears – Oops!… I Did It Again

Britney Spears
Artist: Britney Spears
Title: Oops!… I Did It Again
Label: Jive
Rating: 5/10

Britney Spears’ latest release, OopsI Did It Again, has all the makings for a huge pop success. It’s loaded with rhythmic beats, techno sounds, and some funky mixes. Too bad it’s similar to every other pop group and artist out there in their teens, trying to make it big.

Playing off the hit One More Time, most songs carry the same feel and attitude. OopsI Did It Again starts off with the same spunkiness and groove that made Britney the big name she is today. Following is Stronger, with much of the same “yeah, yeah, yeah” and “baby, baby” you find in her other songs. Along the same lines is What U See (Is What U Get). I guess it’s Britney’s way of telling us she’s an adult now. Lucky is probably the weakest track with its cheesy opening and stupid story. A girl named Lucky who’s a star? Only an eight-year-old girl can appreciate that rationale.

Not only does Britney relive her fame, she tries to cash in on the Rolling Stones’ hit, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction. All I have to say is leave it alone! It just doesn’t work, and I don’t think it should. Britney and Mick are nowhere near close to being on the same level, and they should keep it that way.

After already breaking records and maintaining a stable #2 for top sales in the first week, Britney has nothing to worry about. I guess it’s because most of the songs’ themes center on relationships and heartache, something teens can relate to and want to hear. Sure, she’s got the beat and offers one the opportunity to break out in dance, but Britney Spears is still pretty young sounding and not quite up to competing with great music.
