Bruce Springsteen – The Rising

Bruce Springsteen
Artist: Bruce Springsteen
Title: The Rising
Label: Columbia
Rating: 9/10

Bruce Springsteen is a legend. How do you review someone like that? Good question.
This is the first new material since 1995 and the first studio recording with the E Street Band since Born In The USA.

Vintage Boss:
“Further On (Up the Road)” – by far my favorite song. It might sound subtle but is nothing if not absolutely gorgeous.
“Waitin’ On A Sunny Day” – optimism has never sounded so sweet.
“Nothing Man”, “Paradise” and “Empty Sky” – the lyrics will astonish you. They are simply poetic and as always tell a tale.
“Worlds Apart” – Joined by Pakistani Qwaili singer Asif Ali Khan and group you’ll find yourself filled head to toe with goose bumps.
“The Rising” – making our way through life can be both good and bad and its good to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
“City Of Ruins” – Written for Asbury Park but has taken on a whole new life after September 11th. Tragedy is tragedy and this is a song we can all take to heart for each and every ghetto down to the devastation of the twin towers right before our eyes.

Good Stuff:
“Lonesome Day” – strings abound throughout a track that is easy to sing back.
“Into The Fire” – Drowning in pain and passion there is a lot to hang onto.
“Countin’ On A Miracle” – rocks in all the right ways.

Won’t Miss It:
“Let’s Be Friends” and “Mary’s Place” – Not up to the other tracks.
“The Fuse” – subtle sexual innuendo aside its not as big as the rest of the Rising.
